GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

MELT SHOP is the new steel plant designed to produce about 800,000 typ of billets in state of Kuwait at shuaiba industrial area for UNITED STEEL INDUSTRIES. The plant is designed according to state of art technology in the steel plant machinery with high quality, flexibility, efficiency and economic operation supplied by Danieli Italy.

The technical specification of the plant is based on world recognized organization in steelworks with compact production unit. With the best technological solution, the plant is achieving efficient operating results with low man power and specific energy consumption, thereby making the plant highly competitive.

MAIN PROCESS EQUIPMENTS:

1.EAF(Electric Arc furnace)-Tab weight 120t, Hot heel 25t, split shell, EBT system, 4 Oxy jet, Carbon jet, 1lime jet,130 MVA+10% transformer, Max power 95.3 MW. Tap to tap time 61 min, charge mix 80% HBI+20% scarp. Hourly productivity 118.0 t/hr.

2.LF(Ladle furnace)-Inert roof with lifting & lowering system, 18 MVA+ 20% overload.

3.CCM(Continuous Caster machine)  -Liftable saddles turrent, Lift able cantilever tundish car, retractable hydraulic oscillators, 5 strands, 9/16 m radius casting speed for high carbon grade 130 mmSq 3.7 m/min & 150 mmSq 3.0 m/min.

4.WTP(Water treatment plant)  -Closed Contact circuit 2870 m3/hr, Closed Non-contact circuit 4400 m3/hr, Open Contact circuit 415 m3/hr, Make up water 118 m3/hr.
5.ASP(Air separation plant) –Gaseous Oxygen 4300 Nm3/hr, Liquid Oxygen 200 Nm3/hr, Liquid Nitrogen 90 Nm3/hr.

6.Compressed Air Plant –Compressed Air 6100 m3/hr, Instrument Air 300 m3/hr.

7.LPG storage -4 storage vessels for LPG, geometric capacity 100m3, 2 vaporizers, 2 boilers, requirement 740 Nm3/hr(42 t/day).

8.EOT Cranes -2*16 t Scarp yard; 1*10t Additive bay; 2*250/50/10 t Ladle handling; 1*60/15 t CCM service; 2*20 t Billet bay; 2*10 t warehouse & workshop bay.

KEY FACTOR:

            The plant is equipped with extensive steel melting, refining and casting.
The electric arc furnace is equipped with split shell, EBT system, conductive arms, 4-Oxygen jets, 3- carbon jets, 1 wall lime injector, HIREG Digital electrode regulation system and 130 MVA transformer. Tapped steel weight is 120 t and HBI continuous charging is through 5th hole.
EAF is supported by inert roof offline Ladle Furnace with 18 MVA transformers.
The continuous billet caster machine is having ladle turret with liftable saddles and liftable cantilever tundish car, mold section is 130x130 & 150x150 mm, machine radius 9/16 m and retractable hydraulic oscillating table for better steel level and casting speed control.
The production process is fully automated in all the section of the plant.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONCERNS:

            The fume plant is designed to capture and treat the fumes generated by the furnace operations.
The secondary fume hood is arranged on the building roof above the furnace and in ladle refining station, material handling system and refractory demolition area.
The environmental safety in the melt shop and the surrounding is up to highest standard.
